Arcadia News

Overview

Arcadia News is a roguelike action game created for a 48-hour game jam in Paderborn, Germany by a team of German and American game development students to fill in part the requirements for a study abroad course. The main character is a young woman living a content life in what appears to be a Utopian society. She begins to find newspapers that tell a different story, and her perception of the world around her begins to change and become more dangerous.

The theme of the game jam was “fake news”/freedom of speech. Deciding to make a roguelike for a game jam was pretty ambitious, and we had to cut a lot of story elements (i.e. cutscenes) simply due to time limitations, but we were still pretty pleased with what we were able to get done in those two days.
